MedLook Weekly Tip For 12/08/2006

Sub-folders for Patients - Pending Insurance   Return to Archive

The Patient sub-folders include three (3) folders that show pending insurance:  Pending Insurance, Pending Primary Insurance, and Pending Secondary Insurance.  Pending insurance includes all insurance claims that have been generated and billed and that also have a remaining balance due from the respective insurance carrier.  In MedLook that means you have viewed or printed the claims with the Set Submission Date option checked either in batch or individual billing.  Even if you viewed the claims but did NOT save them the claims will be marked as pending (this is intentional as you may have saved them previously and not had the option checked).  The Pending Insurance folder lists all claims for all carriers regardless of whether they are primary, secondary, etc.  The data is grouped by primary insurance and then secondary insurance.  The data is sorted by the insurance mnemonic and then the amount due.  The footer contains the aggregate sum due for each carrier.  Each line item contains the basic patient contact information, the amount due from primary and secondary insurance, and the contact information for each carrier.

Below is a view of Pending Insurance.

Primary Insurance Pending and Secondary Insurance Pending are very similar to Pending Insurance except they show only the primary or secondary insurance pending.  Consequently the views are slightly different but not much.

These folders can be very useful in following up on claims that are otherwise stuck in limbo somewhere.  They also provide a confirmation as to how much insurance has been billed and that remains due.
