MedLook Weekly Tip For 09/29/2006

Subject: Sub-folders for Patients

The Patients sub-folder has over 60 entries at this time (63 actually).  These sub-folders present all kinds of information pertinent to the patient data.  The list is long, admittedly, but it can be edited to fit your needs as discussed in an earlier tip (just right click on the list).  A single click on any item completely changes the information displayed allowing you to better analyze your data.  You can generate lists related scheduling, unposted data, transactions, unsubmitted insurance, open charges and accounts, patient due, late payments, pending insurance, aging, date of service (DOS), managed care, POS, procedure and diagnosis codes, and more.

The first two folders (Phones, SSN, DOB and Patient Table) are very similar.  The primary difference is that the first list has fewer columns of data (10 as opposed to almost 60).  On slow networks, computers with minimal memory, older operating systems, etc., the fewer items loaded results in faster displays.  If you use the Patient Table and find that it is overly slow to load, try the other list as it should be much faster.

As with any other list, you can sort by any column with a single click of the column header.  If you want to sort by multiple columns then right click on the grid of patients and select Sort By.

Either of these lists, along with a few others, can be made the default view for the Patients folder.  If you click on the Patients folder and then select View from the main menu both Phones, SSN, DOB and Patient Table are listed.  Clicking any of the lists presented there makes them become the default view for the Patient folder.
