Patient Batch Billing - Filing Statements Electronically   Return to Archive

MedLook supports (at least) two formats for filing patient statements electronically:  POS-I-BILL and BillFlash.  Both methods involve creating the statements in batch just like normal (same options, etc.) but you must use the Display command button (not the Print button).  Once the claims are displayed you can choose to print the claims or submit them to either of the two service providers.

POS-I-BILL is from Professional Office Services, Inc. (POS).  To generate the file required by POS simply select the Export->Text Export menu item from the Batch Billing review toolbar.  Provide a filename (make sure it's a file you'll remember) and leave the other options blank.  Click OK and your file will be created.  At this point you use your web browser and submit your claims (just like using a clearinghouse).

BillFlash is from NexTrust.  To generate the file required by BillFlash you follow a very similar path to that above.  However, BillFlash has a few additional options that you can change before submitting your claims.  Use Export->BillFlash Options to format a statement header (two lines) on each statement, what credit cards you accept, and the color of the statement form.  You only need to do this once as these parameters are remembered between sessions per computer.  Then use Export->BillFlash to save your statements to a file.  By default they will be stored in c:\Statements.txt but you can put them anywhere.  Again, remember where you put this file so you can submit it to BillFlash.  Now go to the BillFlash website using your browser and submit your statements.

Electronic patient statements are very easy to generate and submit.  You can immediately see the tremendous time savings it offers.  In addition it actually saves you a considerable amount of money just in inventory (stamps, envelops, paper, toner, ink).  If you are not using electronic statements, you should really consider doing so.
