MedLook Weekly Tip For 03/12/2008
DOS Script for Backups
Return to Archive
MedLook provides a daily and weekly backup option. It also provides for a manual
method of creating a backup (File->Backup Data). However, sometimes you may want
to backup more or less than what gets backed up in a single backup. For instance,
if you are a biller and have five clients all under c:\MedLookData in separate
folders you would have to back them up individually. You also may want to include
or exclude certain files that are not part of the built-in backup feature.
To assist you with your local backups there is a
zip file posted on our website
that by default will backup most files under c:\MedLookData. Simply open this file
and place/extract the contents to an external device (or other hard drive) where you
want to make your backup. Then edit the DoBackup.bat (or DoBackupSilently.bat) file.
Change the MedLookData folder to whatever folder you want to backup (and change
c: to another drive if necessary as well).
If the files are extracted to a USB2 device and your computer is using Windows XP
or Vista then auto-play will startup when the device is connected and will prompt
you to do the backup once connected. The backup can also be run manually by double
clicking the DoBackup.bat file. It's very simple. If you want to store the backups
by date, or day of week, just rename the new backup file as soon as the backup
completes.
